Tokyo Branch

business : interior design
Total floor area :138u

Located in the business district of Marunouchi, this project is the first Japan branch of Berry Brothers & Rudd, the oldest wine merchant in England with over 300 years of history behind it. A wine cellar displaying BB&R's distinctive offerings was installed at the entrance, while glass shelves hold a selection of old wine bottles that have been preserved for their historical value. The space also serves as a miniature wine museum. In addition to recreating something of the atmosphere of the original Chalmers dining room in England, the special suite also houses a selection of furniture and interior furnishings that reflect both traditional Japanese and British culture. The pieces by George Nakashima, in particular, were chosen based on the size of the table settings, and were created by taking into consideration the number of wine glasses to be used and the progression of the dinner to be served. The elegant wallpaper with motifs designed by William Morris was designed to strike a lively contrast with the antique furniture while making a bold aesthetic statement, allowing visitors to experience an authentically British sort of atmosphere. What we sought to create was the ultimate Berry Brothers & Rudd experience - a space that was neither purely a restaurant, nor solely a conference room for office meetings, but rather a tastefully composed ensemble that offers customers only the finest and most exquisite wines from around the world.
